Introduction

The ITEA Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) 2026 is intended to provide insights and serve as stimulation for the ITEA Community, including our project participants and the Eureka network as a whole.

Very important is the idea behind our SRIA: While ITEA projects naturally focus on software and systems, the proposals are developed bottom-up and the project results are application domain-agnostic. Therefore our SRIA should not be considered as a limiting, but stimulating statement for the ITEA Community.

The ITEA SRIA is structured into two complementary parts:

• A long-term strategic focus: This section outlines the key socio-economic challenges designed to inspire and guide the ITEA Community. It also introduces potentially disruptive research and innovation topics.
• Evolving topics originating from the bottom-up Calls: It includes publicly available content from ITEA project proposals that highlight advances beyond the state of the art, demonstrating the dynamics of the ITEA Community. The material is analysed by an AI Large Language Model (LLM) and reviewed by selected members of the ITEA Steering Group (STG) prior to publication. This section is updated annually.
